Gena Rowlans was born in Madison, Wisconsin, an bought up by her parents Edwin and Mary in Cambria. Her father was in banking and legislated for the state, her mother was a housewife and painter. The Rowland family oved to Washing after Gena's father was appointed to a postion within the US department of agriculture. Gena attended the University of Wisconsin from 1947 to 1950 and went on to study drama at the American academy of dramtic arts.
